Requests for advice should be made in writing and emailed to Solicitor.General@justice.tas.gov.au. Prior to submitting a request for advice please access the Guidelines for seeking Advice from the Solicitor-General’s Office (PDF, 135.6 KB).
Once we have received a request for advice, your request will be acknowledged by email and prioritised in line with other matters received by the office. To assist us in determining the priority of requests, please advise whether your matter is urgent or if you otherwise have a timeframe in which advice is required.
What to expect when the OSG is instructed
Government must accept legal advice provided by the Solicitor-General as accurately stating the law. All advice of the Solicitor-General, whether oral, or written, formal, or informal is to be treated as binding unless a court expresses a different view.
The Solicitor-General does not provide legal advice to members of the public.
